NOTE VARIE E STORICHE...| Origine e diffusione: è originaria delle foreste tropicali del Sud‑Est asiatico, in particolare Indonesia, Filippine e Malesia, ma oggi coltivata in molte aree tropicali per la produzione di olio essenziale.
Etimologia: il nome Cananga deriva probabilmente da termini locali indonesiani/malesi legati alla pianta e al suo profumo. Il termine “odorata” indica l’intensa fragranza dei fiori.
Uso tradizionale: nelle culture del Sud‑Est asiatico, i fiori erano usati nei rituali religiosi, per profumare ambienti, tessuti e capelli, e come ingrediente nei preparati aromatici destinati a favorire il rilassamento o il sonno.
Profumo e olio essenziale: l’olio essenziale, noto come ylang‑ylang, ha una fragranza dolce, floreale e leggermente fruttata. È celebre in profumeria per essere uno dei componenti principali di molte fragranze famose, incluso il classico Chanel No. 5.
Cultura e simbolismo: in alcune tradizioni indonesiane, i fiori di ylang‑ylang simboleggiano amore, sensualità e bellezza; venivano anche usati nei matrimoni per profumare l’ambiente e come portafortuna.
Curiosità botanica: i fiori hanno diverse “frazioni di distillazione” (extra, I, II, III), ciascuna con profilo aromatico differente; la frazione “extra” è la più pregiata in profumeria.
Effetto sul benessere: oltre al profumo, i fiori e l’olio essenziale sono storicamente considerati rilassanti e tonificanti per l’umore, caratteristiche che oggi trovano conferma in studi preclinici su olio essenziale e aromaterapia.
Impollinazione e api: pur non essendo tra le piante mellifere principali, i fiori attirano occasionalmente insetti impollinatori grazie al loro intenso aroma dolce, ma non sono generalmente sfruttati per miele commerciale.
Curiosità commerciale: il termine “ylang‑ylang” deriva da lingua filippina o malese e significa letteralmente “fiore dei fiori”, a sottolineare l’intensità e la delicatezza del profumo.
Storico utilizzo cosmetico: in Indonesia e nelle Filippine i fiori venivano tradizionalmente messi in sacchetti di stoffa con oli vegetali per creare profumi naturali o in prodotti per la cura dei capelli. |
