NOTE VARIE E STORICHE...| Specie originaria del Sudafrica, diffusa soprattutto nelle regioni del Capo.
È una pianta tipica di ambienti semi-aridi, costieri e rocciosi, adattata a suoli poveri e siccità prolungate.
Il genere Bulbine prende il nome dal greco bolbos (bulbo), anche se B. frutescens non possiede un vero bulbo, ma radici carnose.
“L’aloe dei poveri”
Tradizionalmente chiamata “poor man’s aloe” o “burn jelly plant”.
Il soprannome deriva dall’uso del gel fogliare come rimedio locale per:

punture di insetti
Questo uso popolare è sorprendentemente coerente con i dati scientifici moderni sulla cicatrizzazione cutanea.
Pianta amica degli impollinatori
I fiori giallo-arancio, ricchi di nettare, attirano:

Fiorisce per lunghi periodi, rendendola preziosa come risorsa continua in giardini xerofili e contesti urbani.

A differenza dell’aloe, l’uso interno non è tradizionalmente diffuso.
